Just came across this:

As promised, Google released the Android SDK for gPhone-like devices today. Programmers can use it to immediately begin development of native programs that will run on Open Handset Alliance hardware. In a surprise move, however, the native programming interface is Java.

Heather told us about:

Gmail has nearly doubled the amount of email that you can store on a free account. How does this compare to what you have now?

Thanks Amber, for pointing out:

Days after making waves in the nascent social networking pond with its OpenSocial initiative, Google just cannonballed into the much larger world of mobile phones. Today Google announced the Open Handset Alliance, a consortium of over 30 technology and mobile companies, and Android, an open source software stack for mobile devices. A developer SDK for Android will be available on November 12th, and phones (gPhones?) that conform to the Android standard are expected in the second half of 2008.

This is interesting:

Hank sends us:

In the last few months I’ve seen more and more bloggers getting excited about Stumbleupon and adding “stumble” buttons to their posts in order to encourage their visitors to stumble their latest entries.
While it’s nice to see your traffic stats go up I’ve often wondered if there’s any value to traffic from sites like Stumbleupon.
On Thursday evening I spent some time adding several of the recent posts on Odd Planet to Thoof. The posts that I’ve added to Thoof in the past have always brought in new traffic to my sites.
What’s more, the people who’ve decided to visit one of my sites after seeing the posts summary on Thoof have often taken the time to stop and leave a comment on the post. Some have also enjoyed the posts enough to add them to Digg, StumbleUpon and other social bookmark sites.
The great thing about Digg, Thoof and other […]

Just came across this:

Six new Cities added to Google Maps Street View in Google Maps: Chicago, Portland, Pittsburgh, Phoenix, Tucson and Philadelphia. Images in Phoenix, Tucson and parts of Chicago are all in high resolution. They introduced the option to look up at tall buildings in most new cities like the Sears Tower in Chicago.

This is interesting:

New layer for Google Earth with Geotagged YouTube videos. Click on the YouTube button in the featured content folder and little YouTube icons with videos will appear on the map. YouTube videos only appear on Google Earth when people geotagged them and allow embedding.

Earl wrote to us about:

Although Googling youself is a time-honored pastime, we’re not certain broadcasting the results is going to get you anywhere except home alone on a Saturday night — but that might change if German designer Markus Kison’s DIY Google results ring ever catches on. The (enormous) ring eschews all those tacky rocks for a multi-line LCD, which is programmed to display the number of hits Google returns for a particular name. According to Kison, “in a post information society” it’s not the size of your ice, but rather “the attention you get from the world’s people that counts,” and his ring merely updates traditional jewelry to reflect that. An interesting idea, but it certainly sounds like Markus doesn’t know anyone named John Smith.

Interesting:

operating system (linux
based?) wordt gelanceerd.
